QAnon: New Name, Same Antisemitism

From a new representative, Ms. Greene, to giant “Q”s on leather jackets at the January 6th insurrection, QAnon suddenly seems to be everywhere. QAnon, the far right conspiracy theory, was founded in 2017. It’s loosely organized, which means that its adherents believe in many different conspiracy theories instead of a central one. The fundamentals are that QAnon followers believe in a secret cabal of Satan-worshippers who run a global child-sex trafficing ring and drink the children’s blood. It’s more than a bit insane. It’s also more than a bit anti-Semitic.

  1. From Rothschild To Soros

George Soros, a Jewish philanthropist who escaped the Holocaust as a child, has been accused of being a part of a secret cabal, of being a Nazi, and of participating in the Great Replacement, which is another conspiracy theory about how Jews are bringing in nonwhite immigrants to replace white people.

In short, all of the world’s problems can be blamed on a 90-year old Jewish man. QAnon’s obsession with George Soros is nothing new. Over two centuries ago, the conspiracy theory that the Jewish Rothschild family controlled the world’s finances and was causing wars roared to life.

QAnon targeting George Soros as the reason for everything bad—just as people accused the Rothschilds— is not by accident: it’s because Soros is Jewish.

  1. The Enduring Blood Libel

Blood libel, which gained its big start when Jews were accused of having killed William of Norwich for religious purposes in 1144, is the belief that Jews murder non-Jews to use their blood in rituals. Sadly, this staple of the Middle Ages continues to have currency, as it can be found in the QAnon theory that a globalist cabal is harvesting children’s blood. The terms Globalists and cabal are well-known dog-whistles for Jews. QAnon has repackaged the hundreds of years old antisemitic trope of blood libel.

  1. Q’s Protocols

QAnon alleges that a satan-worshiping cult rules the world. This cult is funded by and contains many Jews. This cult is working to destroy America by promoting homosexuality and immigration. That should sound familiar. The Protocols of the Elders of Zion posits the exact same antisemitic lies. The Protocols is a fake text that outlines a Jewish plan for world domination that was published in 1903. QAnon is in effect The Protocols but rebranded for your crazy uncle.

QAnon is the next in a long, long line of antisemitic conspiracy theories. It’s the same tired tropes with new shinier wrapping paper. Just like all those other conspiracies, QAnon must be fought, and unfortunately, just like antisemitism, QAnon doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon.
