The Scoop on the Sixers

The Sixers are currently on a team-losing streak. They are not losing due to a lack of effort, skill or coaching. They are losing because they are a team that just cannot finish. The Boston Celtics, the Los Angeles Lakers, and the Miami Heat are all teams that the Sixers have been able to hold their own against and at times even get a lead against. But in the fourth quarter, when the last three minutes arrive, and the final leg of the game is approaching, the Sixers for whatever reason are unable to retain their lead.

Forward/guard Andre Iguodala, Head Captain of the team, just does not have his spark anymore. This is probably due to the Sixers resigning him and in the process paying him $56 million dollars, which is obviously getting to his head. That means Andre will be earning $14 million dollars a year for the next four years. That is the same salary that Chris Bosh and Lebron James make in one year. But newcomers and starters Spencer Hawes and Jrue Holiday are quite capable of holding and pulling their weight on the team. Jodie Meeks has recently increased his playing time with his unstoppable threes and Lou Williams’s sixth man off the bench has been hitting all of his foul shots.

Spencer plays the five position, which in basketball terms means the center. However, Doug Collins, Sixers head coach, has decided that Spencer should play more like a four, the power forward position on offense. The Sixers recruited Spencer from the Sacramento Kings last year. He had a rocky start but since losing some weight, he has proven that he is an offensive and a defensive force. He averages 7.1 points, 1.4 assists, and 5.20 rebounds.

Jrue Holiday, the rookie, was drafted from UCLA last year as the Sixers first round draft pick. Since then, he has been playing as a point guard. He averages 13.2 points, 6.3 assists, and 3.90 rebounds. Iguodala could learn a thing or two from the rookie.

Hopefully Coach Doug Collins can turn around this ragtag team and transform them into a winning and invincible team. Not to mention, a team that is finally able to hold and maintain their leads.
