Drayton Earns Central League Singles Title

It’s been rather quiet on the Harriton tennis front lately as the girls squad looks to snatch an unprecedented eighth straight state championship. We’ve almost begun to take their dominance for granted– a shame considering the season they’re currently enjoying, notching 7-0 decision after 7-0 decision. The Rams made a bit more noise Saturday, if possible, when junior Hannah Drayton took home the Central League singles title.

Drayton contributed heavily to the Rams’ title last year and was the top seed entering the tournament. She didn’t disappoint yesterday, dispatching Radnor’s Jasmine Merali in the final with relative ease, 6-4, 6-3. Also turning in a strong performance was Rachel Benstock, who fell to Drayton in a competitive semifinal match.

The Rams will need the full support of the school more than ever as they enter the district tournament, where Drayton finished second last year. It’s not often we are granted the opportunity to see such a dominant team as our tennis squad, let alone one looking for its eighth straight state championship. Harriton students should take advantage.
