Girls Lacrosse Begins Journey to Repeat

It’s that time of year again! RAMLAX has returned to the turf for their first season after winning the 2013 PIAA Girls’ Lacrosse Championship. Even with the loss of two staple members, Caleigh Foust (who is currently playing field hockey at the University of Virginia) and Alison Tepper (who is attending Indiana University), the team is still expected be one of the strongest in the country. The returning members have secured the Rams as the team currently ranked 9th in the nation.

This year’s team captains are seniors Sabrina Tabasso and Hilary Lemonick, who have committed to Loyola University of Maryland and Cornell respectively. When captain Sabrina Tabasso was asked about her expectations for the season and what it means to be a captain she responded,

“My hope for this season is for nothing less than a state championship again because we have promising returning players and we all expect good things from our seniors after four years of experience. This year is all about challenging ourselves and I believe that our season will be predicated on facing adversity and playing with solid grit that will give a new name to girl’s lacrosse.

“Being a captain on a team with such great talent and aspiration is an amazing honor, but with that honor comes responsibility. This is a special team with so many great leaders, and being a captain is just a minor detail that does not play a role in our team’s success. The reason our team holds so much success is because we do not see ourselves as individuals, but we seek to be one unified program, and we play with that determination every single day to work towards being champions.”

Additional members of the team who have committed to play college lacrosse are Melina Avery (Syracuse), Katie Melvin (Michigan), Maura Henderson (United States Naval Academy), and Jane Henderson (Lehigh). New members to this year’s varsity team are sophomores Haley Morris (who started playing lacrosse just last year), Liv Tevis, Laura Lasprogata, freshman Claudia Conrad, and junior Christina Mullen.

The girls plan to prove their national presence this weekend in Florida, where they will be playing their first official games against two of the toughest teams in the country, McDonogh School and Vero Beach. Obviously, this is a team of girls with great passion and talent. Stayed tuned for updates on RAMLAX’s 2014 season and rest when you get there!
