Girls’ Soccer Undefeated in Regular Season, Finishing With Six All-Central Players

Coming off of a 5-10-1 record last year, the Harriton girls’ soccer team was looking to improve in the 2015-16 season, and they succeeded.

Led by senior captains Sammie Bigham and Claire Coyle, the dedicated group of girls finished with a 7-3-2 overall record (7-1-2 conference record) and many firsts to remember.

The Rams, despite their start of 0-3, went undefeated the rest of the regular season, including going unbeaten against Radnor, Haverford, and Conestoga for the first time in school history in the same season.

The girls also came away with their first playoff appearance since 2012, first ever home playoff game, and first ever district win. They won the game against Bishop Shanahan 1-0 with a goal by Morgan Rees, but they lost 2-0 to fourth-seeded Springford, ending their historic run.

The soccer team won recognition as well as games throughout the season.

Sammie Bigham set an all-time record for Harriton goals (15 goals in 16 games). She was named Main Line Girls Athlete of the Week and first team All-Central.

Claire Coyle was named first team All-Central as well.

Other All-Central awards include second team for sophomore Morgan Rees and freshman Filippa Graneld and honorable mentions for freshman Reilly Short and junior Daniella Milani.

Although the team is losing two great senior captains, their future looks bright. The girls are hungry and next year they will be even better, looking to make another great run.
