Sophie’s Cafe is the new place to be, having just recently opened in Wayne in August 2013. Owned by Matthew Shore, Sophie’s is known for its breakfast, lunch, and brunch, not to mention for its Scoop De Ville ice cream, which is said to be one of the best of the Main Line. Shore was the owner of the former Scoop De Ville in Center City. I did not sample the ice cream because we were there for breakfast, but I will definitely be back soon for some! The restaurant has a welcoming and family-friendly feeling, decorated in blue and white, with wide windows to let in the light. With good service and delicious food, Sophie’s is definitely worth your Sunday brunch.

At Sophie’s, I was lucky enough to try many different things. The first was the famous hazelnut coffee. In a big blue mug blowing off steam, the first sip of this delicacy tasted like heaven with cream and sugar! It had the perfect blend of hazelnut and coffee, with neither flavor overpowering the other.

Each day, Sophie’s changes its specials so you will always have something new to try when you come. For breakfast, my sister and I split the peaches and cream French toast. The French toast was made with challah bread and stuffed with a delicious mixture of fluffy whipped cream and fresh, succulent peaches. The two huge pieces of toast in the order were plenty for my sister and me to share. It was delicious! The peaches and whipped cream mixture was light and fluffy, so it balanced out the richness and density of the French toast. The peaches were super-sweet and the French toast was perfectly cooked.

I also tasted what my parents got as well, and their breakfasts were pretty good. My dad ordered another special of the day, blueberry pancakes with cinnamon and coconut. At first, I thought it was a pretty weird combination of ingredients, and I was not sure how it was going to taste. I was pleasantly surprised when the special turned out great! The blueberry pancakes were moist, not dried out from the fruit, which most restaurants cannot pull off. They were sprinkled in coconut shavings and cinnamon, which added a sweet tropical taste that made me want to come back for more.

However, one meal did not live up to my expectations. My mom ordered yet another special, pumpkin pancakes with granola and strawberries, but they were not as great as I expected them to be. The delicious pumpkin flavor could be tasted without being strong, which is hard to achieve, but the pancakes were not sweet and a little dry. I would not recommend this dish for future customers.

Overall, my meal at Sophie’s was great! The service was fast and good quality and the meals were mostly delicious. I would recommend sitting by the windows because they bring in so much light, and it really enhances your meal. Next time you come into Wayne, make Sophie’s Cafe your go-to destination.
