Around the World with Anabelle: Skytop Lodge, Poconos

Originally opened in 1928, Skytop Lodge has excellent family activities and an old fashioned, elegant, and comfortable feel. Looking for somewhere to get away during that upcoming long weekend? Give Skytop Lodge a try.

The minute you pull up to the valet, you will notice the stone lodge settled atop sprawling grounds. After you have unpacked, you can begin to explore the hotel’s many indoor activities, such as an indoor pool and hot tub, a workout room, an adult spa, mini golf, pool tables, Ping-Pong tables, an arcade with skee ball and air hockey, and a milkshake parlor. These activities are the secret to Skytop’s extremely family-friendly flavor.

Hungry? Put on some semi-formal clothing before heading to the resort’s dining room.  The service is not the best, and the food is just decent. If you would like to try something more casual, head downstairs to the Pub, where the food and service are much better.  Plus, the milkshake parlor is right next door, and the nearby arcade provides some fun after-dinner competition.

Feel like breathing some fresh Pocono air? Skytop has its own ski slopes. Although they are rather easy, any skier or snowboarder is sure to have a good time. The lifts are different from what you might know. While standing on your skis, you will be dragged up the mountain by a circular disk between your legs. After a couple of times, it becomes a piece of cake.

If skiing is not your thing, the resort permits sledding and tubing on the property’s rolling hills. You could also head over to Skytop’s private ice skating rink! For an even better time, check the rink out at night, when there is often a candlelight skate. Make sure to stop by the campfire to grab some s’mores on the way. Lastly, the resort offers many multi-level hiking trails year-round.

Overall, Skytop is a great family escape if you are looking for a quick getaway.  While the rooms and amenities are dated, the grounds and activities make the two-hour drive worthwhile.
