The Diet of Harriton

The Diet of Harriton

All students at Harriton have different food preferences, appetites, and favorite meals. Some students bring a packed lunch everyday while others wait in the line for a hot lunch or a premade meal.

The Harriton Banner decided to interview two students about how they get their lunch, what they typically eat, and what options they would like to see the school provide in the future. We spoke with Melanie Metz, a vegetarian, and Johanna Doherty, a sophomore who “buys” but also “brings,” about their lunch habits and opinions on Harriton’s food options.

Harriton Banner: Do you bring your lunch to school or buy, and why?

Melanie Metz: I bring my lunch because they do not have much variety for vegetarians. They also have almost zero vegan options.

Johanna Doherty: I do both because I like to switch it up. Sometimes I want a sandwich or sometimes I want to buy a hot lunch.

Harriton Banner: What does your typical lunch look like?

Melanie Metz: I usually have a vegetable wrap or a peanut butter sandwich. I normally have a side of carrots and pretzels.

Johanna Doherty: When I bring, I have a sandwich and usually an apple and some type of cookie. When I buy, I either get pasta or mozzarella sticks.

Harriton Banner: If you could add any lunch to the Harriton options what would it be?

Melanie Metz: Maybe they could have another vegetarian wrap option.

Johanna Doherty: I hope they continue to do the daily specials.

Overall, it looks like Harriton students are reasonably happy with their lunches at school! A fairly diverse selection means there is something for almost everyone. With a few additional vegetarian or vegan options, the cafeteria would be able to happily feed every student at Harriton.
