Interview with “The Comedy of Errors” Twins!

We are taking a trip, in our favorite “suspension of belief” mobile called theatre! This Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Harriton Theater Company will be performing Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors. This whirlwind show consists of two sets of identical twins and a whole lot of trouble!

The whole company has been working hard on this show since September, and everything is ready – except for an audience. Costumes are 1920s-esque, with color and fur galore, the set is intricate, with archways and ivy, and the actors are prepped with their best Shakespearean language. Below are a few interviews with some of the main characters: ¾ twins!

Harriton Banner: Why are you in Ephesus?

Antipholus of Syracyse: I have traveled far and wide in search of my long lost brother. I stumbled upon E in my pursuit of him and that is why.

HB: Is it true that you have been receiving free gifts from the townspeople and accepting them?

AS: True but thought it was part of culture. No man would be so vain to refuse so fair an offer made

HB: What do you think about Luciana?

AS: She is the fairest dame to ever walk on earth. She is a siren and I willingly succumb to her.

HB: What are your true feelings about Dromio?

AS: He is a merry man and I appreciate his doings for me but there are times where his jokes go too far and I want to beat the living daylights out of him?

HB: What was the most fun part of your adventure?

AS: There were so many! Highlights: finding my true love, brother, father, mother and sleeping with someone else’s wife!

HB: Do you have anything you want to tell the common folk?

AS: You never know what may come of an innocent adventure. When an opportunity comes a knocking, thou would be an villain to not answer the door!

Harriton Banner: What’s a normal day like for you?

Antipholus of Ephesus: From the break of dawn, I rise, and in quick succession, I remove thyself from thy bed. Then walk upon mine heated floors in way of the kitchen. There my servant Dromio will serve the meal created by the kitchen wench, Luce. Then I shall go about thy daily routines, partaking in business endeavors, dealing with such merchants from faraway lands. Oft times, go I to dinner at the ripe hour of 6 perchance with my wife but more often times I am accompanied by work partners.

HB: How do you feel about the big misunderstanding?

AE: My brother and I did walk together. Our goings still nascent but upon investigation did I find by us had similarity and in talking did speak of a life not too unlike the other.

HB: Do you consider yourself an aggressive man?

AE: I encounter oft times people of competency that is akin to an ass. When the people I know do not deliver from my blows do they shiver.

Harriton Banner: How do you feel after the trauma?

Random Bystander: It was very scary seeing pinch, that evil doctor – I had to run for my life!

Stress dream that you had to go into brain surgery and you’d have to miss the morning sets and then you

Harriton Banner: How do you feel that your master treats you?

Dromio of Syracuse: He’s been with me since I was a kid and he’s great and I love him but he gets aggressive and I think he has anger management issues but he’s great and we love each other even though he abuses me.
