After being stuck at home since the middle of March, I am sure all of us could use a vacation. With the current state of the coronavirus, many of us long to travel and to go on a simple getaway to clear our minds of Zoom screens.

We are all looking for some places to go this season, out of the fray and the busy cities. Neighborhood walks let us see a few miles but not nearly enough. Here, I will be counting down the top 10 most underrated places for vacation. 

  1. Faroe Islands, Denmark

These islands between Iceland and Norway are a secret gem for traveling. To start, the population varies around 50,000 people, so crowds will be no problem! For those that enjoy hiking, these 18 islands have dozens of trails with waterfalls, mountains, and more. The ocean, northern lights, and river views are unmatched, and it is a great place to vacation for those that love adventure but hate the crowds.

  1. Huay Xai, Laos

 This gorgeous city borders Thailand and Laos, which allows easy access between the two countries. The Bokeo National Park is a popular tourist destination with tree houses up to 40 meters high! After the park, you can grab some food at their famous restaurant, Tavendeng Restaurant, known for their exotic foods like fried crocodiles. To finish it off, they have a gorgeous waterfront you can sit out on. If Huay Xai isn’t on your travel list, add it now!

  1. Chillan, Chile

This modern city often goes unnoticed when choosing a place to vacation. Its gorgeous cathedral, however, is one of the reasons it should not. The city has stunning markets where you can buy all of your necessities, artisan goods, and more! Moreover, Chile is known for its agriculture and fertile land, which makes for delicious fresh produce. You don’t want to miss going to this location!

  1. Constanța, Romania

This city on the shore of the Black Sea has more than 2000 years of history. For those who want to just relax on a beach, Constanța has that covered. They also have an interesting museum of natural history and a beautiful setting. Don’t miss out on vacationing here!

  1. Luxor, Egypt

This city on the banks of the Nile River is located where the ancient city of Thebes used to be, meaning it was built on thousands of years of history. Their temples are one of a kind and a must-see! The restaurants, such as Al-Sahaby, attract all tourists with their unique Egyptian cuisine. Finally, the air balloon ride over the city allows you to have a birds-eye view of the fantastic sights.

This state is full of national parks such as Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve that will make you never want to leave. Seeing the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) in Alaska is an amazing experience. Additionally, the cold climate allows you to pick up winter sports and explore scenic routes. It’s a beautiful state to visit! 

  1. Hahndorf, South Australia

Known for its German-style city, Hahndorf has many shops and festivals which make a visit there worthwhile. You can take cooking classes on Main Street or cruises around the area. The daytime tours allow you to see all the gorgeous sights!

  1. Zakynthos, Greece 

This Greek island is a great getaway and the views are magnificent. One fun activity is volunteering to help sea turtles. It also has great snorkeling for some fun! Not to mention, for anyone who loves simply relaxing, this is the island for you too! When choosing where to travel to, don’t count this island out. 

  1. San Blas Islands, Panama 

With over 365 islands, there are so many fun activities to do! There are reefs where you can snorkel and swim with sharks. These islands are also completely controlled by the indigenous group, The Kunas, who provide food and housing all year round for tourists. Overall, going here will be a great experience and definitely worth it!

  1. Trogir, Croatia 

Because of its breathtaking sites and rich culture, Trogir has made our first spot. This historic town has mixes of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance Era, as well as modern touches. It is home to a UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization) world heritage site, making it a special location valuable to humanity. In addition, it has amazing beaches you can relax on. Trogir really is an amazing place to explore!
