Zootopia 2 will be released this fall as a sequel to the original 2016 film. Its exact release date is November 26, 2025, and will only be viewable in theaters for the first couple of weeks after the premiere.
The original movie is set in Zootopia; a mammal metropolis filled with life and happiness. The story follows an underdog rabbit named Judy Hopps (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin), who wants to become the first of her kind to join the Zootopia police force. She leaves her home and family to pursue her dreams, and after months of training, she finally makes it. Her trailblazing identity gives her incentive to prove to the chief of police and the city that bunnies can be police officers. She then decides to take on a mysterious case and form an alliance with a wily fox, Nick Wilde (voiced by Jason Bateman). Through tough situations and leads of the case, they discover that they are capable of working together, even though nature would suggest that such a situation is impossible.
Unlike the first film, Zootopia 2 will feature a new group of animals. As it turns out, the founding of the city of Zootopia pushed out many species, including reptiles, into distant towns. The sequel covers the nail-biting adventure of Judy and Nick going undercover in hopes of cracking a new case about a snake who turned Zootopia upside-down. A new character, Gary De’Snake will play a prominent role in the film, and will help the principal characters explore the secret population of reptiles hidden and erased in Zootopia culture and history.
The original film is known for its iconic theme song, “Try Everything” by Shakira, and the sequel will also feature a new Shakira song, “Zoo” which is co-written by Ed Sheeran.
Whether you’ve seen the first movie or not, it’s a very exciting release this fall. The film will be great to watch with family or friends, especially since it comes out around Thanksgiving. I highly recommend seeing it this November.
