Khost Suicide Bombing

On the morning of October 1st, a suicide bomber entered the overcrowded center of Khost, located in Kabul, Afghanistan. The suicide bomber was riding a motorcycle and targeted a joint patrol. This was the fourth suicide bombing in Khost Province in the last five months.

Approximately 20 people died, including three international service members, 16 Afghan police officers, and nearby civilians. About 60 people were wounded in the attack, some more critically than others.

Khost borders Pakistan near Miram Shah, where there are ungoverned tribal areas populated with many rebellious groups. One of these groups, the Taliban (with connecting ties to Pakistan), has outwardly claimed the responsibility for the bombing.  This radical group released a statement saying, “The attack was carried out with a suicide vest worn by one of our hero mujahid, named Shoiab Kunduzi.” If the Taliban was looking to settle any worried minds, they need not have bothered; residents of the area live in fear of another suicide bomber.
