Zenith: An Interview with Zoey Greenberg

Harriton is lucky to have a variety of clubs for every hobby a student could have. Whether you’re into sports, science, writing, dancing, or drawing, there is something for everyone. The Harriton Banner recently spoke with Zoey Greenberg, a hard-working senior, about Zenith, an art department initiative that brings student art to the world.

Harriton Banner: For those uninformed, can you describe Zenith?

Zoey Greenberg: Zenith is an online art magazine where members of the Harriton Community can showcase their work to other students. All different types of art are submitted, including visual art, music, short stories, poetry, recipes, current events, and more. It provides students with a creative outlet and a place to display their talents.

HB: Who started this club?

ZG: This club was started by five students, including Olivia Gregonis, Katie Lee, Liza Cohen, Jenna Pearlstein, myself, and two teachers, Ms. Jackson and Ms. Witman.

HB: Why is Zenith the name of this club? Can you describe the background of this name?

ZG: The definition of zenith is the point at which something is at its peak, or its most powerful. Jenna is the one who found this word, and we figured that it would be a really good name for the website because we wanted the website to showcase what students consider to be a “peak” of their creativity. We also just thought it was a cool word.

HB: What is the biggest project Zenith is working on at this very moment?

ZG: Aside from the next launch, we don’t really have a big project that we’re working on at the moment. However, a big project that we were working on a few weeks ago was the wooden head cut-out thing at Made on the Main Line. It currently resides at the end of the second floor art hallway, so if you want to see it you can just go there.

HB: How does one join Zenith?

ZG: Zenith is pretty open in terms of joining. If you want to be a part of the club, you can go to zenithharriton.com and click on the ‘Submit’ button on the front page. You will get a full explanation on how to submit there, but if you’re too lazy to go through all that you can just click on this link: http://zenithharriton.com/about-1/.

We occasionally have meetings, so if you want to be added to the email list email any of those people I listed above.

HB: What type of art does Zenith do? Is there a main focus on the things being displayed?

ZG: Zenith accepts all sorts of art! We have 5 categories- Art, Entertainment, Right Now, Film/Photography, and Lifestyle. I encourage you to go look at the different categories and figure out where your submission fits.

HB: Do students have the freedom to create whatever they please or are there rules and guidelines?

ZG: Students absolutely have the freedom to create! However, it has to be school appropriate (I know, major downer), and it has to somehow relate to the category in which it is submitted.

HB: Do art and film photography classes in school ever collaborate with Zenith?

ZG: It’s less of a collaboration and more of students in those classes submitting the work they make in those classes. But yes, we get a lot of submission from those students. We also have a lot of contests relating to those classes, like the Vans contest and other fun stuff.

HB: If you could sum up this club in a sentence, what would you say?

ZG: Zenith is a platform for Harriton students to showcase their creative talents and get the recognition and appreciation they deserve.

Zenith’s first launch is October 31st, so be sure to check it out at zenithharriton.com! If you have any questions about Zenith, or want to submit, don’t hesitate to email Zoey or any of the other creators.
