From Haute Couture to Harriton

From Haute Couture to Harriton

As the trees turn from bright reds and yellows to merely barren branches, and as the weather turns from cold to frigid, we find ourselves yearning for our winter clothes. These include knitted scarves, bulky sweaters, comfortable pants, and often times, sweats. If you’re looking for some fashion-forward ways to spice up your winter wardrobe, look no further! These simple changes can switch your winter style from bleak to chic.

Color is a great way to brighten up those dreary winter days, with the obvious choice being a festive red. This season, however, models painted the runway with bright powder blues, bold chartreuses, olive greens, and hints of neon. Looking for a fun, new winter coat? Try a vivid baby blue hue. You could channel your inner Kim Possible with army green pants. As for the neon, try layering a dark top with some bright pants, or vice versa.

Arguably the most stereotypical winter pattern, plaid, made a huge comeback this winter (we’re thinking Cher Horowitz’s, the star of Clueless. Bold yellow plaid skirts weren’t such a mistake after all). Plaid pants, jackets and even sweaters are in this year, making your favorite flannel, fashion forward.

Another pattern found all over the runway was angular print; think of optical allusions and your geometry textbook. This trend is a little harder to wear, but with a little luck, you should be able to find a statement piece in your favorite geometric pattern. Maybe it’ll be a hair accessory, a sweater, or for the gutsy, some printed pants. Everyone will be envious of your brave new style, so much so, that they’ll be scrambling to their math class for inspiration to guide their next purchase.

This trend is bound to be a favorite, for it includes everyone’s favorite clothing item- sweatpants! Sporty chic was a big hit on the runway this year, with models decked out in baseball jackets, multi-colored tennis shoes and color block…everything. Pair some fitted sweatpants with a basic sweater and some high-tops and you are good to go.

Simple updates to your wardrobe can make all the difference this holiday season. If you’re not ready to put your new fashion knowledge to the test just yet, don’t worry: 2015 is right around the corner. Make it your New Year’s resolution to try one of these trends this winter!
