Harriton Jukebox: Bad Seed Rising’s Charm City EP

Bad Seed Rising is a band based out of Maryland, consisting of kids ages ten to fourteen. The lead singer is called Francheska Ferrari, and their EP Charm City was released this past April. It contains five tracks, and considering the age of the members, the music is unexpectedly good.

The first track is, of course, “Bad Seed Rising.” The words are fresh out of a new rebel’s mouth, with hard rock chords and vocals all smoothly put together. There is no crazy screaming, but there is no “goodie-goodie sweet” vocals either. The second song has a similar tone, called “Hey Kids,” that understandably comes after the first, after they have gone all rebel. “Forgot to call while breaking city curfew / Making eyes at who I’m not supposed to” — the lyrics are incredibly catchy, and also makes you want to get up, dance, and break rules.

“Timebomb” is the third track, which is a bit slower paced at the chorus and picks up the beats before and after. It is definitely just as good as the rest of the album, especially for those who are into rock and alternative. “King Kong” is the fourth song, which sounds a bit similar to “Timebomb,” but the creative lyrics and catchy beats definitely make up for the similarity.

“Wolves at the Door” is the perfect ending to the EP, making it easy for the audience to draw the conclusion that Ferrari definitely has the voice for this kind of music, and the band gives her great support through their music. Although it seems a bit like the band is trying too hard to be rebellious, or “B.A.,” the music seems to fit right in for their genre. They also make up for it with the catchy tunes and raw talent the band possesses despite their young age.
