Melvin and Tabasso Reach 1,000 Point Mark

Within one week, two members of the Harriton girl’s basketball team, Katie Melvin and Sabrina Tabasso, reached their respective 1000th point in their high school basketball careers. Both seniors have been starters on varsity since their freshmen year. Katie Melvin became the 2nd girl in Harriton history to accomplish this distinction on Tuesday, January 28th, during an away game at Garnet Valley. She was only 3 points away when she was fouled on a made layup for the “and one.” The crowd erupted in cheers as the foul shot went in and marked her 1000th point! Sabrina Tabasso became a similar kind of celebrity just 2 games later during a home game vs. Academy Park. Like to Melvin, she was only 3 points away from 1000 when she was fouled on a shot. She made her first free throw, bringing her to 998 points. The second shot was a bit short, but Harriton grabbed the rebound and immediately passed it out to Tabasso for a 2 pointer, bringing her to exactly 1000 points.

Melvin and Tabasso have led the Lady Rams to a remarkable season so far. Melvin averaged 11.8 points and 4.8 assists per game. The first person she thanked after her 1000th point was her mom, who attends every game. Later that day, she posted a picture of her and her mom on Instagram with the caption, “couldn’t have done it with without you by my side.” Tabasso had an equally impressive season, averaging 10.0 points and 1.3 assists per game. Just like Melvin, right after scoring her 1000th point, she ran off the court to hug her mom.

The Rams just finished up their regular season with a record of 18-3, ranked 2nd in the League thanks to the effort by the whole team, and especially by these two incredible competitors. Congratulations, ladies!
