From the Sydney Sweeney American Eagle Ad Campaign to the seemingly innocent Cracker Barrel logo rebrand, everything in our increasingly polarized nation has an inherent political ideology. Garnering criticism from even the President of the United States himself, Cracker Barrel has come under attack, with some calling the modernized logo “woke”.

The old-timey company Cracker Barrel has faced declining sales and a dwindling customer base. New CEO Julie Felss Masino attempted to resolve this issue through its strategic transformation plan. By updating menu items and refurnishing restaurant locations, the chain hoped to attract a new customer base. The attempts proved successful as sales growth inched higher and higher with each passing quarter.
The next step, the team decided, was to modernize the Cracker Barrel logo. To simplify the logo, character Uncle Herschel and the phrase “Old Country Store” were removed, leaving the plain brown words “Cracker Barrel” sprawled across a yellow background.
On August 19th, the new logo was released to the public. Widespread outrage immediately followed suit, with Cracker Barrel’s shares tanking a whopping 12%. According to PeakMetrics, the near forgotten company had 305 online mentions (as of August 18th, 2025) that grew to 1.6 million online mentions (August 27th). Criticism mounted as people on social media blasted the new logo as “woke” and “un-American”. The reactions, however, don’t come out of nowhere. For the restaurant chain based in southern comfort food and Americana culture, it’s no surprise that the customer base leans conservative. Nick Loui, CEO of PeakMetrics, states that customers “quickly interpreted [it] as a signal that the brand was abandoning tradition.”
Politicians from both the left and right joined in on the public calls for reversion of the Cracker Barrel logo, with some online skeptics believing political involvement is just a method to redirect attention away from preexisting issues such as the Epstein Files.
President Donald Trump also hopped on the logo reversion bandwagon, commenting on Truth Social, “Cracker Barrel should go back to the old logo, admit a mistake based on customer response and manage the company better than ever before.” Just a few hours later, the company released a public apology, “We thank our guests for sharing your voices and love for Cracker Barrel. We said we would listen, and we have. Our new logo is going away and our “Old Timer” will remain.”
